Susan Liu joined Sorbara, Schumacher, McCann LLP on July 2, 2008 after practicing law in China for over 11 years.
Susan obtained her LL.B from Qingdao University School of Law in 1997 and her Masters Degree in International Law
from the Law School of Ocean University of China in 2006. Susan also gained experience practicing law in the
United States where she obtained an Honours LL.M in International and Comparative Law in 2007 from Indiana
University School of Law.
Susan has worked in all areas of Chinese domestic law applicable to the trade of goods, services and technology,
including trade remedies, customs laws and immigration. She developed extensive experience in international trade
law including state-to-state negotiations, trade policy, and economic and trade sanctions.
Susan has also advised clients with respect to foreign investment in China, including advice related to the Investment
China Act and other international laws concerning foreign investment. While working towards becoming a
member of the Bar in Canada, Susan will continue working in her areas of specialty by assisting the firm’s clients
in all aspects of corporate/commercial law, with a particular specialty in assisting clients with international
transactions and trade law.
Susan will also be joining the firm’s immigration team, assisting our corporate clients with temporary and permanent
immigration applications and other complex immigration issues that can arise for companies expanding their businesses
internationally or participating in mergers and acquisitions.
