    Rade Sajic-use for my BioRade Sajic, B.Sc., Ph.D., J.D.

Rade Sajic leads the intellectual property litigation group and is a member of the tech law group and litigation group at SorbaraLaw. His practice focuses on intellectual property, technology development, and civil litigation. Complimenting Rade’s practice is his courtroom experience at the Federal Court of Canada and the Superior Court of Ontario, as well as doctoral work in the fields of medical genetics and microbiology.  His litigation practice includes tort, commercial and employment law.

In addition to counseling clients on drafting, filing, and maintaining patent and trademark applications in Canada and abroad, Rade advises clients throughout the process of product development. He also assists in bringing IP to market for clients ranging from individual inventors to multinational corporations. He works closely with clients to ensure products are compliant with various industry standards and Canadian regulatory bodies. His proven record of successful cases for clients facing litigation disputes (including corporate, commercial, and employment) further strengthens Rade’s ability to meet the multifaceted needs of clients.

Rade was called to the bar at 2013 after completing his law degree from University of Western Ontario. He began his legal career working at the Federal Court of Canada advising the Court on a number of matters, including: intellectual property, immigration, tax, aboriginal, and human rights law. Rade further honed his skills in Patent and Trademark prosecution and contractual agreements following his return to private practice as an associate at a national Intellectual Property and Business law firm.

Prior to law, Rade received his B.Sc. (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology specialization) from McMaster University in 2004 and his Ph.D. in Medical Genetics and Microbiology from the University of Toronto in 2009. With a focus on the inhibition of HIV-1 through novel replication blockers, Rade’s doctoral research was conducted in affiliation with the HIV Drug Treatment Network, Canadian Blood Services, Research Institute of Sick Kids Hospital, and Canadian Genetic Diseases Network. A key achievement in his doctoral work was the identification of a human stem cell line that was resistant to HIV-1.

Like many his clients, Rade has a passion for product and tech development. Rade founded a skin care company specializing in the treatment of acne, rosacea, wrinkles, and scars.  Additionally, Rade is an advisor to a novel agricultural company poised to develop innovative and inexpensive methods of growing fruits and vegetables in desolate regions.  The aim of this initiative is to provide import-dependent communities with the means to grow their own produce, thereby making the communities more self-sufficient.  Rade is also a guest lecturer at the University of Western Law School, where he lectures and mentors students on topics related to intellectual property. He is fluent in Serbian.

Rade practices out of our Waterloo office.
