Mervyn with the glass sculpture award
SorbaraLAW is proud to announce that our very own Mervyn J. Villemaire, Q.C. was recently honoured with the Waterloo
Law Association's Coulter A. Osborne Award. We extend our congratulations to Mervyn for earning this honour.
The Coulter A. Osborne Award is awarded annually by the Waterloo Law Association to a member "whose integrity, comity
and beneficence in professional practice and public life uphold the highest traditions of the profession and enhance the
reputation of the Association and its members."
The award is particularly distinctive because it is awarded based on nominations and votes by Waterloo Region lawyers.
It is a true indication that Merv has earned the respect and admiration of his peers in the legal profession. He has
consistently demonstrated honesty, courtesy, civility and generosity to his clients, colleagues, family, and the
community throughout his 55 years in the private practice of law in Waterloo Region, his past service as a member of
Kitchener City Council (1964 to 1979) and Waterloo Regional Council (1972 to 1978), and his numerous appointments to
various boards for local hospitals, universities and non-profit organizations.
Mervyn was presented with the award on April 20th at the Waterloo Law Association's Annual General Meeting and Dinner,
held at the Walper Terrace Hotel in Kitchener.
Friends, family and colleagues in attendance
Mervyn's distinguished career was celebrated by those in attendance, including Merv's family and friends, many members
of the SorbaraLAW family, and other lawyers from Waterloo Region. Also in attendance to help present the award was the
award's namesake, the Honourable Coulter A. Osborne, former Justice of the Ontario Superior Court and the Ontario Court
of Appeal, and current Integrity Commissioner of Ontario.
The Honourable Mr. Osborne presenting the award to Mervyn
Mervyn joined SorbaraLAW as Counsel in 2001 and continues to provide advice and guidance to his clients and to the
firm in corporate/commercial, real estate, and estate matters. We are proud to have Merv as a member of our "family."
