Susan grew up on the west coast, where she obtained her English degree at Simon Fraser University. Susan moved to Waterloo in 1999, where she made her home. Before entering law school, Susan worked as a freelance writer and editor, and her writing has appeared in both national and international publications. More locally, she was a regular freelance reviewer for the Waterloo Region Record.

During her studies at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, Susan was actively involved in a number of projects, including working as Managing Editor for the Journal for International Law and International Relations, volunteering for one of the law school’s legal clinics, working part time as a Research Assistant for the Internationally Trained Lawyers program, contributing to the Innovation Law Blog, and co-organizing a speaker series on the intersection between Law, Development and Information Technology.

Susan was diagnosed with cancer in late 2014, and took a leave of absence from her practice in early 2015. She passed away on August 14, 2015.
