Jahdiel Larraguibel is a lawyer in the firm’s Commercial Litigation group. He maintains a broad practice spanning commercial disputes, intellectual property litigation (patent, trademark, and copyright), privacy law, access to information, and health and drug-related regulatory issues. He is known for translating technically dense material into persuasive advocacy in court and clear, practical advice for clients.

Before joining the firm, Jahdiel practiced at leading intellectual property law firms in Toronto, where he drew on his science background to advise clients across industries ranging from biotech and life sciences to interactive media technologies. He is particularly experienced as a patent litigation lawyer and has appeared before all levels of the Federal Court of Canada. His experience also includes disputes with cross-border elements, including the use of letters rogatory to secure evidence in foreign jurisdictions.

Beyond litigation, Jahdiel advises on IP strategy, licensing, commercialization, and Health Canada regulatory compliance. He also counsels clients on privacy and data protection law in Canada, including CASL, PHIPA, and PIPEDA compliance for businesses in the healthcare, life sciences, technology, artificial intelligence, and e-commerce sectors. His advice helps organizations protect and monetize their IP, meet regulatory obligations, and manage legal risk in fast-moving commercial environments.

Jahdiel earned his J.D. with a specialization in Intellectual Property, Information, and Technology from Western University. He also holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Molecular Biology & Biotechnology from the University of Waterloo and an M.Sc. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Guelph, with additional international studies at the University of Sheffield (U.K.). During law school, he was research assistant to the Director of the Intellectual Property, Information, and Technology program. He holds the Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C) designation, highlighting his expertise as a Canadian privacy and data protection lawyer.

Active in the profession, Jahdiel serves as Chair of the Toronto Intellectual Property Group (TIPG) and sits on committees within the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) and on the Canadian Bar Association’s Patent and Industrial Design Committee. He is also a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals, the Waterloo Region Law Association, and the Canadian Hispanic Bar Association.

Born and raised in Kitchener, Jahdiel is excited to return to the Waterloo Region to support innovators, entrepreneurs, and growing companies in one of Canada’s leading technology hubs. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and tackling weekend DIY and home renovation projects.
